Clifton Park and Albany NY Homes for Sale: Dress up your attitude......

Dress up your attitude......

So, I've been sleeping in a little too much lately.  I used to never have a problem with that because I always drove my kids to school.  But this year, my eldest son drives himself and our daughter to school and my younger son doesn't have to catch the bus until 8:30, so there is no way I'm driving him.  So last night I made a commitment to get my lazy butt out of bed and take our younger son to school anyway.  This way it gets me moving.

So, back to the title of this blog.........I had an appointment today to show a new client and his wife a real cute Cape here in the Capital District.  I talked to the listing agent and he indicated that the previous owner was a carpenter and that there is a lot (two words people!!!) of attention to detail.  So, I was excited for the showing.  All summer, I've been dressing "down" in khakis and golf shirts.  But today it was slacks, a dress shirt, and a tie to "impress" my new clients.  Well, wouldn't it figure that the listing agent called just as I was pulling out of the driveway and had to cancel the appointment!!!  But, I tell you, I'm feeling re-energized and serious about my business.  So, leave the jeans, shorts, or khakis at home and start dressing like the professional that you claim to be.  Good luck and happy selling!!!

Lewis - so true - we feel so much better when we get up early and take the time to dress nicely. No only do we look more professional and ready for the day to others, but it also affects our attitude - go get 'em!

Everybody is different, but yes, it helps a lot of people to "dress up" somehow their attitude changes. Funny isn't it.  Cloth do make people, don't they

Hey, Lewis. I agree that our attire has a lot (two words) to do with our overall performance. Thanks and take care, Jim

Lewis, change is always a new beginning - let's always look forward to making things happen, and dressing for the occasion.

I like wearing suits.  I have a TON of suits that I like to wear.  However, in a customer service oriented business, I find that you've got to dress to your audience.  If you are taking corporate relocation clients out, wear the suit.  If you are taking first time home buyers out on the weekend, wear the khakis.  If you've got Gen Y agents, encourage them to do the same.  It's hard to impress upon these younger agents, though, that you've got to dress to fit the part.  We don't allow jeans or shorts in the office, much to the chagrin of some.  I always try to suggest that our agents dress one step above the client.  That's all I ask.

Martin- I do agree with you, to wear a suit to a FTHB showing on a low end property wouldn't go over too well.  Thanks for the comments EVERYONE.

Back in 2001 I was hiring home inspectors, and one applicant showed up in a Ford Escort (nothing wrong with that make or model per sé) with a billion beer cans and McDonald's wrappers in the car, barely enough room for him to sit in it and drive. He was wearing tennis shoes, shorts, and a t-shirt. Hmmmm. He didn't get the job, by the way.

I think you're on to something but I'd have to say that, for me, as a work-at-home mom, it is more about the getting up than how I'm dressed.  I remember when our twins were born, I would absolutely BEG for them to go back to sleep.  (5 a.m. comes really, really quickly if you were wondering!)  After a while of the begging not working, I just gave in and started getting up when they woke for bottles.  Now, of course, they go back to sleep but I stay up and get started on my day.  It has really, really changed the way I work (for the better!).  I am so much more productive since I started getting up before the tods (our 2 toddlers) and even before the big kids (2 big boys get up starting at 6:45 to get ready for school).  It is absolutely wonderful!

I would love to be a morning person but I'm not.  I get the things done after 10pm that so many do in the early morning hours.  I can't seem to reset my internal clock.
