I have waited three months to post this blog. I typed it out several times but could not bring myself to click "POST". Now, before I begin please understand that this is intended to help all of you AR Bloggers that need it. It is not intended to offend anybody and it is not intended to be mean. It is also important for you to know that I am NOT an English major, neither is my wife. As a matter of fact, I flunked English my Junior year in High School and had to take it over in summer school (man was that the worst summer of my life!!!). Okay, drum roll please.....................Alot is TWO WORDS. Spelled "a lot". I see so many blogs where a lot of people spell it alot and it drives me crazy. Now, allot is a correct word. It is a form of the word allotment. As in, "We have to allot these leads in a a fair and equitable manner to our agents."
I do sincerely hope that this post does not offend anybody as I really am just trying to help.

wow it is a word I have "done" wrong for a long time thanks. Hope all is well in New York. California is interesting and hopeful. In our world business is good.
hi Lewis,
I cringe the same way when I see the words 'except' and 'accept' misused as well as 'advise' and 'advice' (which I see improperly spelled way too many times here on AR).
I've never seen the words 'allot' and 'alot' and 'a lot' misused here....however I likely don't read as many blogs as you do.

Lewis - You caught my eye with the title, good job. I hope this helps alot of people;-) Come on, you knew some smart alleck was going to do it.
Nice and true! Another tip....books, and movie names and so on are not "ENTITLED", they are "TITLED"
If you work hard in real estate and make the deal come together, we'll then you're ENTITLED to the commission you've earned. But, when you go home and read your favorite book, its TITLED.....
Fun stuff.
A lot of thanks.
Hey there,
I do agree w/ you that it is missed spelled A LOT!. However what doesn't make sense to me is that if it is "lot" spelled by itself than it has a whole different meaning. I just looked it up on dictionary.com it had one small thing about it. Is there any other term that is used this way, so if you put a letter in a space in front of it, the meaning changes?
I think advise and advice is regional. I've seen it several times like that.
ALL - How about; their and there or insure and ensure. These too cause A LOT of problems!!! Oh ya, to and too..........................
I am so offended, I will spell the word however I feel fit. I know that I am not a great speller but I do know that one. Now if I could stop saying gone instead of whent my wife would be really happen
Did you really anguish over this for 3 months? Really?
Michael - Micheal, Micheal, Micheal; me neither, but that is why Uncle Bill (Gates) invented spell checker!!!
How about 'loose' and 'lose'... I see that one all the time.
LOVE it, that drives me crazy as well. YOU'RE BRAVE! ha! Same as when in dialogue people say "across-t" there is no "t" in across (like across the street).
Hope you didn't looooose to much sleep over this. Usually these types of mistakes don't bother me that much, and knowing that the spell checker doesn't catch it all - like loose or lose. What really gets me is when a word is just flat out spelled incorrectly - e.g. tlak, spto... ~Rita
Spell checker? You mean the button that underlines in red every other word I type on here?
Hi Lewis
Well I am no English major either, but there are a few words that get me as well. I learned the "a lot "and "alot" in a Katie Gibbs class I took years ago and never forgot it.
We can all stand to learn, It is a common misspelling for sure and once pointed out, I think most of us appreciate setting the record straight.
Can I add my pet peeve? Eager and Anxious...... I hear this misused all the time, especially by some of the best journalist on TV.... watch and listen...... Anxious, means just that.
I am anxious about my test results.
But I am eager to see what you might post next.
PS thanks for taking the time to point out the misspelling on my post..... you saved me much embarrassment and I appreciate it.
We call all learn from each other.
PPS..... I've noticed since returning after a long absence that many of you have this lovely new format for your page... the beautiful colorful background and all...... I've tried to figure out how to do this and - well I'm stumped....
Thanks Lewis for bringing this up. I think it's been so long since most of us were in school, that it's easy to forget the little rules. Someone else posted something about this recently, it was about the use of dashes. I was doing that all wrong. Example: Award winning builder is not correct but award-winning builder is. Active Rain is great for learning all kinds of things.
Linda- These backgrounds are added through AR Blog Customizer. You can see the link on the left-hand side of my blog page. However, the site has been down for a couple weeks now, so you'll just have to keep checking to see when it comes back up.
Jen - I hope I used the dash correctly in my response to Linda???
